Bikaner, also known as the camel country, is famous for its Junagarh fort, Karni Mata Temple (Rats Temple), and camel festival. It is the home to one of the only two models of the biplane used by the British during World War I.
Bikaner has its wealth as palaces and forts that are built of red sandstone and confronted the passage of time. The city possesses camels that are best for riding in the world and also nicknamed camel country. It also has one of the world’s camel research and breeding farms.
History of Bikaner
Bikaner was known by the name of Jangladesh until 15th Century and Rajputs ruled over it. In 1486, a Rajput ruler, Rao Bika, built this place. At that time, it included the present-day districts of Bikaner, Churu, Ganganagar, and Hanumangarh.
Rao Bika was the son of Rao Jodha of the Rathor family. Rao Jodha founded the Jodhpur state and conquered most of the north Rajasthan.
One day, Rao Jodha placed a stray comment on his son. Annoyed by his comment, Bika left Marwar (Jodhpur) with his uncle Kandhmal to create his own kingdom.
This place belonged to a Nehra Jat. When Rao Bika asked him to give the land, he agreed but put a condition to name the place to his name. The king agreed to his condition and named the place Bikaner.
Even though Bikaner is in the middle of the Thar desert, it contains a lot of spring water. Because of this reason, Bikaner was the oasis on the trade route between Central Asia and Gujarat.
Bikaner played a remarkable role in the history of the Great Rajasthan during the reign of Maharajah Ganga Singh, the first Maharana of Udaipur and Mewar. This proved a milestone in the state’s history, cementing Rao Bika’s power over the region. Since then, it has consolidated and proved to be a milestone in the history of this state. This proved to be an important part of Rajasthan’s history as well as one of its most important cities.
Modern Bikaner is begging with a history of establishing several important institutions such as hospitals, schools, colleges, hospitals, and other institutions.
