Kerala Tourist places List

Kerala is a state on the southwestern Malabar Coast of India, known for its tropical paradise of wavering palms and wide sandy beaches. It is a thin strip of beachfront territory that slopes under the Western Ghats in a cascade of lush green trees and joins the Arabian sea. This state covers over 38,863 sq km (15,005 sq mi). Kerala borders the states of Tamil Nadu to the east and south, Karnataka to the north, and the Lakshadweep Sea to the west. Kerala has divided into 14 districts, and the capital is Thiruvananthapuram. Malayalam is the most widely spoken language and also the official language of the state. It is more known for its backwaters, hills, coconuts, spices, and art forms like Kathakali and Mohini Attam. The city of Kochi ranks first in the total number of foreign and national tourists in Kerala as it is one of the must-visit places on the Kerala tourist places list.

The state is one of the safest regions of India. Incidents of local people cheating tourists are almost non-existent. Kerala has high standards of living compared to its neighbors and other Indian states. It has social lifestyle indices such as education and healthcare that are on par with developed countries. Tourists can relax without followed around by taxi drivers, touts, guides, and similar. Abundant rainfall means that you can find lush greenery that remains pretty much throughout the year. You can get an Ayurvedic oil massage, spend a day or two on a houseboat with nothing to do but watch coconut trees pass by, or laze around on Kovalam or Varkala beaches.

Kerala Climate

Kerala is near to the equator, has a tropical climate. It encounters heavy rainfalls almost throughout the year and is one of the dampest areas in India.

Summer: It lasts from mid-February to mid-May. The sun is hot, and temperatures can go up to 35°C in the middays.
Monsoon: It is in place from mid-May until September end. The North-East Monsoon winds bring heavy rains.
Winter(Mild one): Starts from mid-October to mid-February which is a mild winter in the hilly areas, and can get misty. The weather, however, remains hot and tropical on lower ground. Heavy rains occur from the last week of September until October end. Temperatures may drop down to 10°C or sometimes even a little below during the Winter seasons (November, December) in Hilly areas of Western ghats, especially at popular hill-stations like Munnar.

In Kerala, you should carry an umbrella no matter what season of the year it is. You can expose to a sudden shower in summer that will leave you drenched.

Kerala has a limitless list of tourist destinations that will please any tourist. Famous for its scenic places and natural charm, Kerala is sure to delight any nature lover with its hills, backwaters, shores, waterfalls, and wildlife.
It is tough to shortlist the tourist places in Kerala to narrow it down to 5 or 10. However, I have attempted to create a Kerala tourist places list here. The suggestion while you visit Kerala is to take a lengthy vacation to maximize your stay in the place. Make sure you make it to all these tourist places and curate some of the most beautiful memories out of your trip.

Alleppey (Alappuzha)

It is known for the renowned backwaters of Kerala and in the topmost places on my Kerala tourist places list. The backwaters are a network of brackish canals, rivers, and lakes that weave through half of the state. There is the whole of Kerala on one side also then there is this excellent tourist destination called Alleppey! It has rated as the ‘Backwater Capital of India’ or the ‘Venice of the East’

Cochin or Kochi

Cochin is a unique place in God’s Own Country blended with cultural importance and modern ideas. It is called Queen of the Arabian Sea. The port-city has always been an attraction point since the beginning of history.

Munnar

Munnar is rated one of the most beautiful tourist places in Kerala. Located on the lap of the fascinating Western Ghats, Munnar is one of the highest producers of tea on the Indian subcontinent. The view of undulating hills as they touch the clouds in Munnar rejuvenates your mind and soul. Rising 1.6km above the sea level, a vacation in the beguiling locales of this hilly retreat is all about the lofty clouds, picturesque mountains, rolling hills, and a peaceful ambiance.

Kumarakom

Kumarakom is located near Kottayam. It is a bird watchers’ heaven owing to the 14-acre bird sanctuary. It is the biggest lake in Kerala and the longest lake in India. Kumarakom is a perfect place to spend a day watching sunrise or sunset, depending on the cruise time. Even being lazy is also one of the best things you can do it here.

Thekkady

Thekkady is home to the famous Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. You can see the elephants that roam around the sanctuary, explore the lush green forests, take a boat cruise over Periyar Lake, or take an elephant safari into the depths of the wilderness. Periyar is the perfect getaway for wildlife lovers and for people who want to reinvigorate in the misty mountains of the Nilgiris.

Kovalam

Submerge your feet in the warm sandy beaches of Kovalam. There are many coconut trees here as far as the eye can perceive, add to that the best resorts surrounding lush green trees and you’ve got yourself a favorite tourist destination. Kovalam has gained fame as a center of Ayurvedic healing in the past several years. So if you want to take a break and feel re-energized, Kovalam is your kind of getaway.
